What is your full name?

Mia Rennie

How long have you been competing or partaking in your sport?

I have been skiing (and snowboarding) from the age of 3 and a team member for the Ski & Snowboard Australia Park & Pipe National Team and an NSWIS Scholarship holder.

Where do you call home?

Stanwell Park, NSW.

What gets you outside every day?

The mountains and the ocean. Having grown up by the sea, I have surfed since the age of 3 and skied in the mountains from the age of 4. I am drawn to nature and through nature, I get to carve my future. The mountains are my home, whilst I spend spring and summer surfing, this is to find calm in the ocean. My drive to be Australia's most successful ever Olympian requires a relationship with nature. My family has instilled in me the need to respect the ocean and the mountains. Without a healthy planet, we don't have a healthy anything, that's what I have been taught. I live by this every day.

What inspires you? How do you cultivate your passions?

I am inspired by progression. Small steps and the journey. Every night at Dinner, we talk about the things we did today, and what it would look like tomorrow if we did it just a little bit better. I want to be an Olympian, my mum and dad remind me every day that it’s not about Olympics, it is about the journey, the things we find in the shadows, in the ocean, on the mountain that makes it worthwhile. So, I am inspired by the environment, the people around me (we are the average of our 5 closest friends) and the impact we have on leaving a footprint. A positive one.

What 3 values are most important to you when showing up in your community?

1. Respect - Listen, watch, learn, eye contact, manners and encourage.
2. Trust - In myself, my friends and my teammates. I need to believe I can do it, and I find the more I encourage the people around me to do it too, we all rise together.
3. Love - Love what you do.

Are you involved with a nonprofit or community organization?

Yes, I am an Ambassador for Common Goods. A non for profit who invests 100% of their profits into environmental projects. You can find it at www.commongoods.co.

Which of CLIF’s 5 aspirations resonates with you most?

Sustaining the Planet: Conserving and restoring our natural resources; growing a business that operates in harmony with the laws of nature.
